Magical Uses for Runes

The word 'Rune' is derived from the word 'run' which is an Anglo-Saxon word for mystery or secret. The origin of Runes has not been determined for certain but is thought to have begun in ancient Germanic tribes as pictorial symbols.

The runic alphabet differed greatly in different places and at different times, the alphabet on this website is the Futhark alphabet (named because of the sound of the first six letters).

As well as divination, runes can be used for Magical purposes, either worked into spells, talismans, carried around individually or carved into items to provide the particular energy of that rune. Below is a guide to what energies the individual runes may represent for magical use. However, this list is not definitive and you may 'feel' that different energies are more appropriate after you have worked with the runes for some time.
